who cares/Untitled (I will close my eyes and put my finger on the map), 2018
found pedestals/reflective foil, dibond, steel
112 × 170 × 500 cm/77 × 15 × 1900 cm
Site-specific installation made by stacking a collection of redundant pedestals, found in the storage of Prague City Gallery. A binder clip was cast from the traces of bronze found on the stones from the unknown statues they once supported. Affixed to the base of the tower, it encouraged viewers to attach their own dedications, commemorations and memories.
Installation of the quotation “I will close my eyes and put my finger on the map”, as spoken by Yusef, a pharmacist who had fled violence in Sudan, in response to the question of where he would settle in France following the demolition of the Calais refugee camp. Realised as part of the exhibition ‘Vice Versa: Our Earth is Their Moon, Our Moon is Their Earth’, Festival m3/ Art in Space, Prague, 9 June – 30 September 2018.
